Historic Melrose, Inc is sponsoring the Q.I. Roberts History and Archaeology Club. The mission of the club includes exploring the historical and archaeological treasures of our area, earning service hours, developing leadership skills, and having fun with fellow Q.I.R. Knights! The faculty adviser is Mr. Michael Weeks who is also a member of the HMI board of directors.

The group met during their “Power Hour” on Friday, Aug 23. 2019 and discussed their goals for the academic year.
Goal #1: Four field trips per year.
• Bronson-Mullholland House in Palatka
• Melrose Cemetery
• Banana, Florida settlement (grist mill ruins) south of Melrose
• University of Florida Ordway-Swisher biological station (10,000+ acres)
Goal #2: Conduct historical research and write text for historical marker for Banana, Florida.

Goal #3: Speaker programs during the Friday Power Hour, 1140am to 1210pm, Fridays.
Key next steps:
• Develop list of desired speakers
• Logistics for field trips and dates
• Elect officers
• Establish bylaws
They also discussed visiting Princess Island near St. Augustine, inviting Q.I. Roberts to speak to the group and discuss the history of the Q.I. Roberts school, and discovering the origin of the name “Florahome.”
